Steven, A Musician in Need of a Flashy Suit

Steven is the fiddle player in an amateur bluegrass band based in Thomasville, and he came to us last July with a very bittersweet problem.

The “sweet” part of the problem was that his band had just been booked for its biggest gig yet at a local music festival where they’d be playing in front of around 5,000 people.

The “bitter” part of the problem was that the festival was in about a week, and Steven’s only suits were meant for his work events – much too formal for the festival’s laid-back vibe.

Hong, the head tailor at ATL Tailor, assured Steven that he needn’t worry; all of our bespoke suit-making services come with a one-week guarantee. She immediately got to work taking Steven’s detailed measurements.

Even though the tailors at ATL make timeliness a priority, though, they also make sure each customer’s suit has a design and material makeup that’s ideal for the specific needs of that person. For Steven, the suit needed to meet a few requirements:

  1. It needed to be something that looks sharp but also fun in a “smart casual” way. This applies to both the material used and the color of the suit, which should be bold but not distracting.
  2. It needed to be made of a material that won’t wrinkle, even during the animated stagework of a bluegrass fiddle player.
  3. It needed to be something breathable. An outdoor music festival during July in Georgia is probably going to be pretty warm, especially when you’re performing an animated genre of music under bright stage lights.

After consulting with Steven about a few options for his suit’s design, we settled on an earthy burgundy corduroy-linen blend. The material was perfect for a Georgia musician playing lots of outdoor venues, because the corduroy makes it resistant to wrinkles on stage and easy to travel with. The linen blend makes it breathable and comfortable to move around in. The color is casual and easy on the eyes but is also earthy enough to blend into the music.

Five days after taking the initial measurements, we gave Steven a call to let him know that his suit was all ready to pick up. He was very happy with the result when he came into the shop and let us know a few weeks later that his performance had gone off without a hitch. If you’re reading this, Steven, we hope to see you again real soon.
