Murray H is a local protestant clergyman who was recently ordained as a pastor. He already owned religious robes, but he decided he needed to fit himself for a few brand new cassocks to wear during sermon. Since we’ve already worked with several pastors, priests, and ministers of various religious sects throughout the years, Murray knew who to come to.
When designing the new cassocks, we of course made sure to adhere strictly to the traditions of the church, such as the 39 button count present on all Anglican robes or the standing collar that provides a sharp, formal look. We combined all this into a detailed sketch before starting on the actual tailoring.
Next, it was time to choose the material we would use. We consulted Murray on this choice and gave him a few options of fabrics used in cassocks. Because his congregation often meets outdoors and he would be giving some of his sermons in the hot and humid Atlanta weather, he chose to go with a blend of tropical wool and silk.
We used the design in material choice to create a “rough draft” of the cassock. Then, we had Murray come back into the shop to step into our initial design. We took his measurements in the cassock and recorded the alterations we needed to make for a perfect fit.
In the next few days, we picked up the scissors and sewing needles again to make another round of cuts. We also added some detailing, like monogramming the Chi To symbol on to the fabric button coverings.
Finally, we had Murray in for one final fitting. Luckily, the drape and the overall fit of the Cassock looked great, and Murray reported feeling very comfortable in it.
We can’t tell you how rewarding it is to contribute to the local Atlanta religious community in this way. Members of the clergy are some of our favorite customers, and we are so proud to have gotten to help out a few times in the recent past.
